Hand sanitizer doesn’t have to smell bad, wreck your hands, or be boring

I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of pumping hand sanitizer onto my hands from an industrial size jug at every store I go to. That stuff is gross. It smells terrible. It’s either too sticky, too slimy, or too runny and I want to wash it off right away. We need to keep up with washing our hands and sanitizing when we can’t wash them. This isn’t optional right now. But just because we have to use hand sanitizer a lot, it doesn’t mean we need to wreck our hands.

My secret weapon for protecting my hands are the great smelling and soothing sanitizers from Bath and Body Works.  Everyone in my family has their own hand sanitizers they carry plus some just around the house. Once you start using great hand sanitizer, you won’t want to go back to the other stuff.

What’s the difference?

The difference is Bath and Body Works actually cares about your skin. Just read this part from their hand washing FAQ:

And speaking of all…have you met all of our hand soap blends? Our iconic, rich and non-drying gentle foaming hand soaps are a staple. Since they’re blended with vitamin E, natural essential oils, nourishing shea extract and soothing aloe, these soaps get rid of dirt and germs but rare still gentle on hands – perfect for everyone. Of course, we also have soaps for every need, specifically exfoliating and nourishing. We keep an extra bottle of each in a cabinet for when our hands need a little extra TLC.

Most hand sanitizers kill germs with alcohol. Alcohol is great for wiping out all sorts of things because it attacks the cell walls of the germs and kills them. The thing is, alcohol starts doing the same thing to your skin too. Alcohol doesn’t care if it’s a germ cell or skin cell, it goes to work on it right away.

Alcohol and gel only sanitizers will do a number on your skin. Drying it out, irritating it, and then there’s the smell. It’s pretty intense and unpleasant. Bath and Body Works’ hand sanitizer is enriched with shea extract, vitamin E, and aloe—all great for your skin. For the germ-killing part of the equation, the sanitizer has 68% alcohol, which will kill 99.9% of germs.

Killing germs doesn’t mean killing your nose

Soaps and hand sanitizers don’t have to smell bad to work. When was the last time you used a soap that smelled truly bad? Even the soap in public washrooms smell better than regular hand sanitizer.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer comes in scents like:

  • Eucalyptus Spearmint
  • Sunshine and Lemons
  • Black Cherry Merlot
  • Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin
  • Warm Vanilla

There are always seasonal fun scents too. For the holiday season expect to find Crushed Candy Cane and Tis the Season in stores soon.

Scents vary from store to store and sell out fast. Check your local store often and subscribe to their deals newsletter to get a heads up when your favorites are on sale. By the way, if you work in a scent-free office or are sensitive to scents, they have a fragrance-free anti-bacterial spray too.

Trust me, try it

I don’t like strong scents, but the Bath and Body Works sanitizers are just right. The bottles look small, but a little bit goes a long way. The sanitizer isn’t too liquid so you feel like you need a towel to dry off and isn’t so sticky you want to wash your hands right away. There’s no stinging feeling, and if your skin is dry, the sanitizer feels soothing.

Their gel sanitizers are great, but  for times when you can’t wash your hands try their hand sanitizer spray. It feels like washing your hands, but without needing a sink. The sprays have the same great stuff as the gel, but are liquid.

While you’re picking up some hand sanitizer, pick up a little holder too. There are lots of ones to choose from, but the most awesome ones go fast. The holder keeps a bottle of sanitizer snug in place so you can clip it onto your bag or coat. It’s always better to have great sanitizer on hand instead of relying on that industrial jug they serve when you walk into stores.
